Long Overdue Triple Award Gratitude

Posted on

It’s a funny thing, this award business. I remember first time I received one, I was still trying to figure out this world of blogging and I actually for a second thought that I was the only one receiving it. Color me proud and overwhelmed. But before I had time to clear some space for the statuette on my non-existing mantelpiece and put out word to the press, I realized that it was more of an ongoing recognition of us all; a growing network of acknowledgment. Then I went through a rather cynical phase of debating whether or not it was just another version of chain-letter-waste-of-time.

Finally I arrived at a deeper appreciation for the awards, not necessarily as something incredibly unique but simply as yet another means for us to show each other gratitude. Every exchange builds a bridge across cultures and beliefs and make room for understanding and acceptance – and with the likes and comments and awards we strengthen that. Simple and beautiful.

Although I’m a fan of the awards, apparently that doesn’t mean that I’m particularly good at putting in the work they require. It seems that when inspiration randomly hits me, I sit down and write and that’s it. A blog and run kind of deal. Obviously I have WordPress on my phone and whenever I have time, I really enjoy reading all the great blogs I’m following – but passing on an award, you need a little more commitment than that.

But today is the day that I will, at least temporarily, catch up and show some love and appreciation for the blogosphere!!!

All the way back in December, my awesome blogger friend Nowan Zen decided me worthy for.. drumroll…….

TAH DAH!

Yup, that’s right. And then…. drumroll…. I did absolutely nothing about it. Nada. It came with rules, a responsibility to pass it on and I was even supposed to collect stars. Okay, I never actually understood the part about the stars but I’m guessing that was a voting thing.

The shame and regret to emphasize here is that I neglected to give it the appropriate attention. 2012 is long gone and the window of the award is closed, the curtains pulled tight and the window sill serves a final resting place for flies and bugs. BUT you should still hurry and see what’s going on over at Mr. Awesome’s blog – there’s always lots of valuable weirdness, original thinking and a huge amount of wise reflections mixed with real life observations to dive into, you won’t be bored.

Then, in the beginning of January, beautiful Sue nominated me for the Liebster Blog Award. I had the best of intentions to pass it on within a matter of days but now we’re closing in on April and I haven’t passed on anything yet. Notice the unfortunate pattern. I’m more than a little embarrassed.

Sue’s blog, Daily Echo, is a magical patchwork of stories from her life in a very beautiful and mysterious part of the world, written with so much warmth and depth and with a bubbling humor shining through it all. Do drop by her blog and let her writing warm your soul and leave you with a smile.

To the questions;

♥ What is your favourite kitchen? Why? I love food and don’t see any reason to limit myself to only one favorite. I could eat my way through Italy and spend all night at a table full of Greek mezzes or Spanish tapas – or sushi! I’m pescetarian but besides that, the whole world is my favorite kitchen as long as desserts are included.

♥ What you hate the most about people? I don’t hate anything about people but ignorance does make me pretty tired and a little scared at times.

♥ Where would you travel first, if the money won’t matter? Everywhere, in no specific order. Just pack up my life and hit the road – or maybe get a boat and start sailing wherever the wind would take me.

♥ What is your favourite part of day? Why? There’s something about the night that opens up all the doors of my consciousness and change my perception into something undefinable –  and dawn is amazing and magical and full of promise.

♥ Where would you like to live? (anywhere) Right between the mountains and the ocean.

♥ What is one of the funniest things you have ever done? A few years back in Athens, a friend and I was having dinner with our host at a local restaurant. During our conversation I shared a little of my Greek skills but didn’t quite get the subtle nuances of the language and accidentally propositioned the guy in a very direct way. He grinned happily while his face turned purple and I almost peed myself with laughter and embarrassment. He became a good friend and the incident a great inside joke.

♥ Which movie is better than the book? Does such an anomaly even exist??

♥ What is your favorite song? Why? I don’t think I have just one.. Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Know is one. Eva Cassidy’s Songbird is another. Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World is an important one. And anything that makes my soul soar, my body sway and my eyes fill up with tears.

♥ What is the first thing on your bucket list? All of it!

♥ Who is your favorite actor/actress? (name a movie too) Tough one. I love Keanu Reeves. No matter which character he plays, there’s this seriousness and depth shining through – he’s just hot. There’s also something about Julianne Moore that I adore.

Finally, a few days ago, Shaun nominated me for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. WOW!! As it turns out, the triple factor of neglect finally kicked my butt hard enough to sit down in front of the computer – where I have been sitting for almost three hours now, which serves me well for being such a slacker.

Looking for reasoning to a complicated world is a place of much love and many thoughts, spiced up with the occasional great music. It’s no coincidence that Shaun has a ton of awards, he deserves all the love and appreciation he gets! Go visit his blog and see for yourself.

Seven things about myself;

1. I guess we have established by now that I’m a recovering award slacker.

2. I think tests are fun and I usually do well on exams.

3. My latest realization is that Scandinavian winter is highly overrated and I’m not going to repeat the experience next year.

4. Everyday I become a little better at not giving a s*** about other’s opinion and keeping it simple.

5. I need alone time to digest and re-energize.

6. This blog was just supposed to be about sharing a trip to India with friends and family at home but it turned out to be so much more than that.

7. My life is wonderful.

This just leaves the most important part of the award, passing it on!!

The Liebster Blog Award requires answering the questions and nominating 11 other blogs. The Very Inspiring Blogger Award requires sharing 7 things about yourself and nominating 15 blogs.

I answered the questions, shared the things about myself – and then I have decided to nominate these 17 amazing blogs. Each blogger then have the freedom to accept whichever of the two awards the like. I don’t think that’s cheating.

All absolute wonderful and deserving of awards, visits, comments and huge amounts of love! So go visit :))

Interesting that you should be a slacker. I am too!
Believe me, I do very well know that these things could be indicators of how appreciated one is as a blogger, but the rules!!!!!! Oh help!!!!!!
Thanks for the dramatic nomination given me. Be cool!

      You are welcome!
I guess in my case, it’s a selective kind of slacking – awards and such, a definite slacker but on other stuff, not so much..
I know, the rules are brutal – however, I believe adjusting them (completely changing or cutting them out) is acceptable :)
      Being cool.

oh wow. i am new to blogging and this is my first award nomination! it feels really good to be recognized and honored this way. thank you so very much! :)

i will accept the very inspiring blogger award… but i will have to think about it… i’m an over-thinker and a slacker. ;)

but it definitely will not be difficult to find other bloggers to nominate. i have been so inspired by the amazing artists and poets that i have found on wordpress… i have written more in the past month than i have in the past five years!

    thank you again, sweet friend.

Okay…..new rule: Cookies are earned! One cookie for every time we stand up and get our butts off the couch. This is, of course, followed by the “return to the starting position” move.

Okay, we’ll play Twister. Winner gets a cookie. Two wins in a row gets cookies AND a spoonful of ice cream. There will be a nap involved at some point..
