Long Overdue Triple Award Gratitude

Posted on

It’s a funny thing, this award business. I remember first time I received one, I was still trying to figure out this world of blogging and I actually for a second thought that I was the only one receiving it. Color me proud and overwhelmed. But before I had time to clear some space for the statuette on my non-existing mantelpiece and put out word to the press, I realized that it was more of an ongoing recognition of us all; a growing network of acknowledgment. Then I went through a rather cynical phase of debating whether or not it was just another version of chain-letter-waste-of-time.

Finally I arrived at a deeper appreciation for the awards, not necessarily as something incredibly unique but simply as yet another means for us to show each other gratitude. Every exchange builds a bridge across cultures and beliefs and make room for understanding and acceptance – and with the likes and comments and awards we strengthen that. Simple and beautiful.

Although I’m a fan of the awards, apparently that doesn’t mean that I’m particularly good at putting in the work they require. It seems that when inspiration randomly hits me, I sit down and write and that’s it. A blog and run kind of deal. Obviously I have WordPress on my phone and whenever I have time, I really enjoy reading all the great blogs I’m following – but passing on an award, you need a little more commitment than that.

But today is the day that I will, at least temporarily, catch up and show some love and appreciation for the blogosphere!!!

All the way back in December, my awesome blogger friend Nowan Zen decided me worthy for.. drumroll…….

Yup, that’s right. And then…. drumroll…. I did absolutely nothing about it. Nada. It came with rules, a responsibility to pass it on and I was even supposed to collect stars. Okay, I never actually understood the part about the stars but I’m guessing that was a voting thing.

The shame and regret to emphasize here is that I neglected to give it the appropriate attention. 2012 is long gone and the window of the award is closed, the curtains pulled tight and the window sill serves a final resting place for flies and bugs. BUT you should still hurry and see what’s going on over at Mr. Awesome’s blog – there’s always lots of valuable weirdness, original thinking and a huge amount of wise reflections mixed with real life observations to dive into, you won’t be bored.

Then, in the beginning of January, beautiful Sue nominated me for the Liebster Blog Award. I had the best of intentions to pass it on within a matter of days but now we’re closing in on April and I haven’t passed on anything yet. Notice the unfortunate pattern. I’m more than a little embarrassed.

Sue’s blog, Daily Echo, is a magical patchwork of stories from her life in a very beautiful and mysterious part of the world, written with so much warmth and depth and with a bubbling humor shining through it all. Do drop by her blog and let her writing warm your soul and leave you with a smile.

To the questions;

♥ What is your favourite kitchen? Why? I love food and don’t see any reason to limit myself to only one favorite. I could eat my way through Italy and spend all night at a table full of Greek mezzes or Spanish tapas – or sushi! I’m pescetarian but besides that, the whole world is my favorite kitchen as long as desserts are included.

♥ What you hate the most about people? I don’t hate anything about people but ignorance does make me pretty tired and a little scared at times.

♥ Where would you travel first, if the money won’t matter? Everywhere, in no specific order. Just pack up my life and hit the road – or maybe get a boat and start sailing wherever the wind would take me.

♥ What is your favourite part of day? Why? There’s something about the night that opens up all the doors of my consciousness and change my perception into something undefinable –  and dawn is amazing and magical and full of promise.

♥ Where would you like to live? (anywhere) Right between the mountains and the ocean.

♥ What is one of the funniest things you have ever done? A few years back in Athens, a friend and I was having dinner with our host at a local restaurant. During our conversation I shared a little of my Greek skills but didn’t quite get the subtle nuances of the language and accidentally propositioned the guy in a very direct way. He grinned happily while his face turned purple and I almost peed myself with laughter and embarrassment. He became a good friend and the incident a great inside joke.

♥ Which movie is better than the book? Does such an anomaly even exist??

♥ What is your favorite song? Why? I don’t think I have just one.. Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Know is one. Eva Cassidy’s Songbird is another. Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World is an important one. And anything that makes my soul soar, my body sway and my eyes fill up with tears.

♥ What is the first thing on your bucket list? All of it!

♥ Who is your favorite actor/actress? (name a movie too) Tough one. I love Keanu Reeves. No matter which character he plays, there’s this seriousness and depth shining through – he’s just hot. There’s also something about Julianne Moore that I adore.

Finally, a few days ago, Shaun nominated me for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. WOW!! As it turns out, the triple factor of neglect finally kicked my butt hard enough to sit down in front of the computer – where I have been sitting for almost three hours now, which serves me well for being such a slacker.

Looking for reasoning to a complicated world is a place of much love and many thoughts, spiced up with the occasional great music. It’s no coincidence that Shaun has a ton of awards, he deserves all the love and appreciation he gets! Go visit his blog and see for yourself.

Seven things about myself;

1. I guess we have established by now that I’m a recovering award slacker.

2. I think tests are fun and I usually do well on exams.

3. My latest realization is that Scandinavian winter is highly overrated and I’m not going to repeat the experience next year.

4. Everyday I become a little better at not giving a s*** about other’s opinion and keeping it simple.

5. I need alone time to digest and re-energize.

6. This blog was just supposed to be about sharing a trip to India with friends and family at home but it turned out to be so much more than that.

7. My life is wonderful.

This just leaves the most important part of the award, passing it on!!

The Liebster Blog Award requires answering the questions and nominating 11 other blogs. The Very Inspiring Blogger Award requires sharing 7 things about yourself and nominating 15 blogs.

I answered the questions, shared the things about myself – and then I have decided to nominate these 17 amazing blogs. Each blogger then have the freedom to accept whichever of the two awards the like. I don’t think that’s cheating.

All absolute wonderful and deserving of awards, visits, comments and huge amounts of love! So go visit :))

Versatility, Passion And Sisterhood

Posted on Updated on

Okay, I’m on it!

A while back I received an award with much gratitude – and then I forgot all about it *looking down very embarrassed* and it’s just been sitting there, all un-reciprocated and un-passed-on. Now, that’s just wrong!

Then a few days ago it happened again – and again I was slacking.

But then yesterday (or the day before..?) I was given yet another award and with that, another chance to make it all right. Phew!

First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH, miss Jensine, for awarding me and for always sharing your beautiful wisdom as well as wonderful comments, I love it all.

And THANK YOU, Circles Under Streetlights, for thinking that my blog is worth nominating. I was very touched by your kind words and I’m so inspired by your blog.

These are the rules for The Living Passionately Award;

  • Take a deep breath
  • Think about who you’d like to pass this on to
  • Do something weird and out of the ordinary today
  • Post the award someplace conspicuous…..the underside of the hamper lid, inside of the lav door, at the bottom of the bird-cage.

Umm yes, okay. Done. I’ve been pretty normal today BUT yesterday (or last week) my bike and I did run over a pedestrian. The pedestrian was a drunk girl and my bike was the one who suffered the most and all in all it was a very unfortunate incident but without further injuries. Not sure it qualifies as being weird but thankfully it’s definitely out of the ordinary. So there.

Oh well actually, I also baked an unusual lousy batch of brownies today. I might have to get some vanilla ice cream to make it go down easier but that’s just the kind of sacrifices we have to make in life.

The award has been printed, copied and put on the windshield on every car on my street with a note saying ‘Dear neighbor, you have been awarded!’ Spreading the love sure feels nice.

And these are the rules of the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award;

  • Include the award’s logo in a post or on your blog.
  • Share the love and link the person who nominated you.
  • Tell 7 facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 7 other fabulous bloggers.
  • Link your nominees to this post and comment on their blogs, letting them know they have been nominated.

Yes, I did it, its done and I will do it!

The Versatile Blogger Award

And last, the rules of The Versatile Blogger Award;

  • Thank the person who gave you this award. Include a link to their blog.
  • Next select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly.
  • Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award — you might include a link to this site.
  • Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

All this copy-paste is poop, I’m sick of it. Moving along to something more fun :)

These following blogs are all simply amazing, enlightening, amusing and highly recommended! Go get inspired, you won’t regret it!!

Bella Bleue Healing

The Better Man Project

Meditative Mutterings

Island Girl

Coco J. Ginger Says

Some of them I have been following for months, some are fairly new in my world – but ALL of them are absolutely fabulous!

And I know The Versatile Blogger Award told me to nominate 15 but it also told me to share 7 facts about myself and I’m not going to do that either. Let’s hope the WordPress Karma Police will let me off easy this time.

I’ve been trying for a while now to think of 7 facts about myself. I can’t. Apparently I don’t have a clue..

  • I recently discovered the joy of a scotch called Laphroaig – I know, good luck pronouncing that one. Drinking it, I feel like a Scottish fisherman, which has been a surprisingly great feeling.
  • I’m too hungry to think right now and will wrap this up.
  • My dinner tonight is pizza.
  • At the moment, this is my favorite track. Even though it’s not my usual style, I love it!

Hopefully you listened to the lyrics and enjoyed it and maybe even did a little dance – or at least bopped your head slightly :D

Let The Sunshine In

Posted on Updated on

Something wonderful happened a few days ago – the freakishly cool and talented Robert nominated me for The Sunshine Award! How could he know that it all had been a little grey and that sunshine was just what my world needed.

Robert and Stephen has this really awesome blog, Two Gallants, and their writing is amazing! Go visit their universe immediately – I promise, it will enrich your life!

Robert, thank you so much for letting the sunshine reach my little blog, I’m so very grateful!!

And of course there are rules to be followed – no rules, no award apparently.. and I kind of really definitely want the award…

The Sunshine Award rules:

  • Include the award’s logo in a post or on your blog.
  • Answer 10 questions about yourself.
  • Nominate 10-12 other fabulous bloggers.
  • Link your nominees to this post and comment on their blogs, letting them know they have been nominated.
  • Share the love and link the person who nominated you.

So these are the questions I have to answer;

  1. Favorite color? All shades of green. I also love dark purple and at the moment I have a thing with red and orange colors. Okay all colors then – but mostly green.
  2. Favorite animal? Again, I want to say all animals but if I have to decide on only one, I guess it will be horses. Definitely something too big to accidentally sit on.
  3. Favorite number? Both 7 and 11 – depends on the situation.
  4. Favorite non-alcoholic drink? Champagne? Hmm all kinds of fresh juice but also I really just love water.
  5. Prefer Facebook or Twitter? Not at all in love with Facebook but never used Twitter so…
  6. My passion? I’m feeling pretty passionate about life and everything in it. Is that not specific enough?
  7. Prefer getting or giving presents? Definitely giving! I do love getting presents as well but I tend to get a little performance anxiety when unwrapping.
  8. Favorite pattern? This is a very weird question but okay. I’m amazed by the pattern of nature – the structure of tree bark, a leaf, our skin. The divine imprint.
  9. Favorite day of the week? Adventure day!
  10. Favorite flower? Calla Lily and Trumpet Lily but also Sunflower and Rose – and everything special and colorful really.

And so, I hereby nominate the following blogs to receive loving sunshine to brighten up their hearts and their day:

Chaotic. Only Not Really.

Rainey Daze and Crazy Nights

Thank you, all of you – and congratulations!!!

A Little Love

Last week a little love was sent my way in the form of the Liebster Blog Award. Erin who nominated me has a wonderful blog, Bella Bleue, so inspiring and life affirming – and I’m very grateful to be nominated by such a beautiful person.

random spillages…

My work here is done – have a beautiful day!

Posted on Updated on

I started this blog purely for self-absorbed and self-entertaining reasons – and then somehow it turned into so much more than that, a source of all good things.

One of these good things, or should I say amazingly talented and original people out there, nominated me for the Kreativ Blogger Award (tempted to do a Sally Field – may or may not already have done one in the bathroom mirror).

Seriously, if you haven’t already, then go check out his awesome blog, I’m Not Lost, Just Weird. You wonderfully wise weirdo, thank you!!!

So to the rules…

1. Thank the blogger who gave you the award and provide a link.

– CHECK! Well, you really can’t express gratitude too often so THANK YOU ;)

2. Nominate seven other bloggers for this prestigious award.

This is the best part but also the hardest. Do you have any idea how many mind-blowing blogs are out there?! Let me just reveal, many!

  • Island Girl because she shares her beautiful part of the world in such a way that makes me want to join her.
  • Mooselicker because his writing is full of understated humour and intelligence and simply awesome.
  • Obsessions because her writing resonates with me and her spirit inspires me.
  • because his writing is making me blush – most of the time at least. And Kyle, I know you just got this award recently but it’s my prerogative to give it to you again. So there.
  • Ink because this blog has got a quality to it that I haven’t yet been able to fully describe – but it feels like magic and it transports me to a very special place.
  • Gen Y Girl because she’s here and she’s the future and she’s got some thoughts that should be heard.
  • Things Could Be Worse because I can’t just keep re-blogging all his cool stuff.

3. List seven things that your readers might find interesting.

Huh?? Like what I may or may not do in front of my bathroom mirror..? Pff.

  1. I’m a floater. I love to float. I swim out to where I no longer see or hear the beach and then.. I float. Just the ocean, me and the sky – it’s pretty amazing.
  2. I hate routine. Like, I really hate it. Just the fact that I have to eat, poop and sleep every day is challenging to deal with.
  3. I live in what is supposedly one of the happiest and most privileged countries in the world – and yet, I’ve never really felt at home here.
  4. When I think about that, at least in this life, I’m pretty much stuck on this planet, I get a little claustrophobic. I don’t know if you noticed, this is a very small planet.
  5. I’m perfectly content with communicating using only sounds. I love words but often they’re not that necessary.
  6. My favorite book forever and ever is The Little Prince. Magical.
  7. When asked “either… or..?” I will always answer “both”.

That’s it, this was fun :D
