There is a sorrow
beyond all grief which leads to joy
and a fragility
out of whose depths emerges strength.
There is a hollow space
too vast for words
through which we pass with each loss,
out of whose darkness
we are sanctioned into being.
There is a cry deeper than all sound
whose serrated edges cut the heart
as we break open to the place inside
which is unbreakable and whole,
while learning to sing.
I read this poem several years ago and I remember the truth of it echoing through me, bringing me much-needed peace. It reminded me that even in pain there’s beauty, and that what matters the most will never be broken. It is one of my favorite poems, although I haven’t thought of it for a long time – but then today when I read the most recent post on The Better Man Project it immediately popped into my mind again. Funny how that works..
May we all remember, or have someone to remind us, that our dark moments serve a valuable purpose and that we hold in our hearts unbreakable love and light ♥
it’s okay to be sad
it’s even okay to feel sorry for yourself
once in a while
and then it’s more than okay
to get your ass back up off the floor
and keep moving forward
your life is waiting
and it’s beautiful
it can be scary
exploring new territory
displaying imperfect humanity
letting life unfold
embracing the unknown
it’s all so very
scary and necessary
of a power
an echo of an ancient river
Several people in my life is right now challenged with getting to the bottom of who they really are. It’s a tough and scary process and I’m so proud of them for having the courage to accept the struggle and move forward with their eyes open.
They have my deepest respect, my support and all my love ♥
challenging the limits
pushing back the horizon
standing on my toes
deepening my understanding
expanding the world
persistently creating more space
